Creating 'The Snow Queen' - Photo shoot with Peter Teigan

Before the start of the tour Ballet Theatre UK had a photo shoot in London with renowned dance photographer Peter Teigen. It was his use of dramatic shadows and theatrical lighting we thought complimented the style and story of 'The Snow Queen'. These images were then used to promote the show, and also used with in this seasons program.

Here is a behind the scenes look at the shoot, to give you and insight to the production.

Touring a Ballet is not all Tutu's and Tiara's!

Every night the company of dancers receive a great applause, which is truly well deserved but there are more folk deserving of the applause! There is a hardworking team of technical staff, lead by Russ Marquis that are needed to not only run the show, but build the set, rig the lighting, work the fly, sound and effects, then take it all back down again. It is by no means an easy feet to do this show after show.

Just a few images of the 'teckkies' packing the set after a show at The Solihull Arts Complex.

Join Us on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube
and Keep Up to Date with Everything BTUK!

Today we have updated some images on our facebook page from the rehearsal stages for 'The Snow Queen', from the studios in London, to give you an incite to production.

The rehearsal stages last for around a month, but sometimes can be longer depending on the type of production, and if its a new piece. The production usual consists of two acts, around 50 each half, which is a lot of steps for the company to learn. Also due to the fact the company is a touring company, the piece is actually learnt with different dancers playing varies roles, so sometimes the show has to be set with three cast, which alternate throughout the tour. Giving each dancer the chance to bring their skills to the forefront, and show case their talent.

A Sneak Peak Behind the Scenes on Tour with BTUK

After a brilliant start to this seasons tour, we are giving you an insight to the behind the scene with some snap shots.

An important part is the 'get in', where the technical team have a large amount of work to do. This is where they prepare the stage ready for the show by laying down the specialist floor, hanging the cloths and setting the intricate lighting plans, adapting it to suit each and every venue on the tour.

Above: The technical team preparing the flooring
Above Right: The Set, part way through the 'get in'

Once the technical 'get in' is complete there is the time for the dancers to take part in a company class. This is a crucial part of the preparation as it enables the dancers to warm up ready for the performance, and is completed before every show. This usually happens on the stage. Then time is spent blocking the show, adapting the performance where needed to suit the staging and space for each venue.
